President’s Remarks
It is very impressive to see so many of our projects getting under way. This is what Rotary is all about. A focus for areas of service both with service committee projects and our main club fund raising projects.
The Arts and Craft Fair led by David Acton and part of the heritage weekend is imminent, tickets for the Brass Band Concert championed by Tom Hobson on Sunday 2nd November 2008 are being printed and Geoff Foulkes will soon be collecting names of volunteers for the Mega Bag Pack at Morrison’s on Saturday 20th December 2008
Since the last Bulletin we have enjoyed the Pakistan Independence celebration at the Town Hall on 14th August 2008 which was also a Mayor’s Charity Fund raiser and was organised by our member Shahzad. I was pleased to support him and we had a table for 10. It also gave me an opportunity to address those present about Polio Plus under which we now seeking to eradicate pockets of infected areas in India and Pakistan
The Inner Wheel trip to Arley Hall and Gardens on Tuesday 19th August 2008 was a great success and is fully reported with several photographs on their web site www.iwrochdale.co.uk
Thursday 21st August was an official holiday from meetings but we had an informal get together for a Banquet at the “India Lounge”. Twenty one people enjoyed a huge meal and thought it was a great success
On Saturday 23rd August 2008 I attended a Service of Celebration for the 75th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Middleton at St Leonard’s Church Middleton followed by a Cheese and Wine reception at the Old Grammar School; it is good to see our daughter club is doing well.
Our Charter Night is on Monday 17th November 2008 and Assistant DG Elizabeth Tatman tells me she is looking forward to attending. Our former member David Lewis, famous for his wit and entertainment skills, has accepted my invitation to attend as my guest and main speaker. He sent me an email form sunny Cannes to accept. I know it will be a great night so book your places now.
