Last year the Rotary Club of Rochdale organised the 3rd Annual Arts and Craft fair in the Great Hall of Rochdale Town Hall on Sunday 13th September 2009.
We believe it was the best so far thanks to Rtn David Acton and Sheila, Rtn Mike Tomkinson and a big turnout from members. Very good feedback from stall holders on a Heritage town hall weekend with Mayor and Mayoress Rochdale Youth Orchestra, big tombola , Petrus, Samaritans , Help for Heroes and Together charity displays alongside 33 stalls. There were jewellery,photographic,art work of various types,chocolate,farm produce,childrens gifts and toys.All the tombola prizes went and the raffle (a la Acton) art work added colour.
Rochdale Youth Orchestra provided musical entertainment with Sue Verity conducting. Rochdale Rotary have been a major sponsor of the orchestra for the past 6 years.
President of Rochdale Rotary Club Elvet Smith said: "This is our third annual art and craft fair and the idea is to try and raise money for two charities, the Petrus Community Day Centre and the local Samaritans.
"The Mayor very kindly organised for us to have the use of the Town Hall without charge as part of the heritage open weekend.People visiting this historic town hall which was fancied by Hitler had our Fair to enjoy at the end of their tour"
Mayor Keith Swift said: "I think Rochdale Rotary do a fantastic job and this art and craft fair shows how well organised they are. I am sure they will raise plenty of money for their chosen charities."
The final tally was over £900 for Petrus day centre and Rochdale Samaritans ;
